That’s what makes 7kW charging endearing to daily drivers — it adds about 25-30 miles of range per hour. An overnight charge easily handles typical daily driving. For most people, 7kW is the sweet spot between cost and convenience.
Installation Requirements
- 240V, 40-amp circuit (provides 32 amps continuous)
- Properly rated wiring (8 AWG typically)
- GFCI protection (built into most EV chargers)
- Weatherproof installation if outdoors
When You’d Want More
If you drive 80+ miles daily or have a vehicle with very large battery capacity, faster charging reduces overnight charging time. But for most Northwest commuters, 7kW handles daily needs comfortably.
